more—we borrowed the rest of the money
from the bank, and we bought it. We had a
brewhouse.
She Said I had actually moved out of
the restaurant industry when I went back to
Atlanta. I was in sales and marketing at this
point. So when I got that 30-barrel brewing
system phone call I thought, "oh my gosh…
I'm a beer wench again! I thought I already
did that in my 20s."
How do you guys manage to work and live
together?
She Said We have very different areas of
focus. He's a fantastic operator. He also has
a lot of vision. I'm different—all about sales
and marketing. If you want to grow your
business, or come up with a plan to get into
Target and Sam's—I'm your gal. Our two
areas don't cross over much. I don't think
we step on each other's toes a lot.
He Said Ahem. We'll talk about that later.
But we come up with a business plan every
year and pretty much stick to it. We get along
well as partners.
Does work bleed into your personal life?
She Said I don't know that we make
much effort to define that. We just agree that
it shouldn't.
He Said ere's enough going on here.
We don't really need to talk about work at
home. We have lots of disagreements, but
they all happen at work. Aside from maybe
drinking a beer from here, work doesn't go
home with us.
Any advice to young couples?
She Said Find a partner you have fun
with. Not somebody you want to change.
Look for what you already want. Take their
strengths and meld them with yours. Pick
who you want to be with for a long time. And
someone who has the same values.
What are the most admirable qualities
you see in each other?
She Said I already said something nice
about him…it's his turn. I mean, if we're
keeping a tally…
He Said I'll start with the non-romantic
stuff…for us the only way we can work
together is if we agree that it doesn't cross over
into our private life.
