THE ARTS THE ARTS
ey say that opposites attract, and this seems to hold true of many of
the most infamous relationships of past. We all love an odd couple,
from Lucille Ball and Ricky Ricardo to Felix and Oscar. And now,
art-enthusiasts on the Gulf Coast can checkout another unlikely duo
in action: Disney and Dali.
rough June 12, e Dali Museum in St. Petersburg is presenting
an exhibit that tells the story of the unlikely alliance between two of
the most renowned artists of the twentieth century: brilliantly eccentric
Spanish Surrealist Salvador Dali and American entertainment innovator
Walt Disney. Presented through a multimedia playground of original paintings,
story sketches, archival film, conceptual artwork, objects, photographs and audio, this
encyclopedic exhibition features two vastly different icons who
were pulled together through their unique personas as well as
their collaboration on the masterful animated short Destino,
which, sadly, neither were able to complete during their lifetimes.
"Disney and Dali heralds a new era in art exhibitions," said Dali
Museum Executive Director, Hank Hine. "Visitors can expect a
multi-sensory environment of moving image, soundscapes, and
the transformative aura of exquisite individual paintings."
