Claire Sandberg
Digital Organizing Director
She's quickly becoming known
in the 2016 Presidential circles as
the drumbeat behind Sen. Bernie
Sanders' digital campaign. Claire
Sandberg is no stranger is raising
awareness on a grass-roots level and
harnessing the power of digital tools.
Before she joined the Sanders
campaign, she ran a digital campaign
against fracking in New York that
garnered the attention of politicians
and celebrities such as singer Natalie
Merchant and actor Mark Ruffalo.
Over the past two months, Sandberg recruited Twitter
and Reddit as social media platforms to expand Sanders'
campaign message to voters. Over the summer, Sandberg
and other female organizers held what they described as "the
largest event of 2016 so far," with more than 100,000 people
declaring they would attend via Facebook. In an interview
with Elle magazine, Sandberg supports the power of "digital
tools that allow us to throw out some of the old playbook."
e U.S. military is integrating women into two of its most
elite all-male combat units. Captain Kristen Griest and 1st
Lieutenant Shaye Haver became the first women ever to
successfully complete the U.S. Army's Ranger School, an
intensive, 62-day combat course that tests both mental and
physical aptitude. In another bold move, the elite SEALS
team says women who pass the six-month grueling training
regimen will be allowed to serve in combat roles.
