In this age of air-brushed beauty epitomized on magazine covers and movie screens, plastic surgery has become all the rage. Once reser ved for a privileged few, cosmetic surgery is common today even among younger generations. e most respected cosmetic surgeons' waitings rooms are filled to capacity with patients ranging from teenagers to seniors. Long stressful hours and the pressures of managing client expectations can take its toll on any physician, but especially surgeons. Dr. Christian Drehsen, owner of Clinique of Plastic Surgery with offices in St. Petersburg and Sarasota, finds his balance out on the open waters. Born in Belgium and raised in Brussels, Dr. Drehsen spent his early years in medicine working in hospitals in Kentucky before moving to St. Petersburg over 35 years ago. "Boating has been my escape. Every time I talk with people at the marina, it's the same story. As soon as I am on the water, my life outside doesn't count anymore," he says. He's the proud owner of a new custom Selene Trawler, " Tiama," a beautiful 55' luxury yacht, adorned with stunning teakwood throughout the interior, an extended canopy and generous seating areas on the upper deck, the ideal spot to enjoy conversation and cocktails on the water. "For me it's a great escape living in Florida. e only reason why I am here is because of the water. I think Florida has a lot to offer and the water is very accessible, unlike other countries where it is expensive," he adds. His new vessel was shipped by cargo boat from Europe, then converted to U. S. standards. Dr. Drehsen launched his new boat in the Florida Keys and sailed back to St. Petersburg with his longtime girlfriend, Karina Brown. e couple spend much of their free time on the boat and have a pair of signature "His and Hers" boat shoes at the foot of the stairs leading to the sleeping quarters below deck. Drehsen says he likes to captain his own boat, but also enjoys having a captain so that he can enjoy time with friends onboard. Rather than invest in a vacation home, Dr. Drehsen enjoys the freedom his yacht provides to change destinations at will, any port of call can be his next vacation spot.
