michaelsaunders.com | 13 In the News With another record-setting tourism season this year — and no signs of slowing down — new visitors from around the globe are discovering our slice of paradise. The downtown Sarasota skyline is filled with progress, marked by the unofficial state "bird" — the crane — that signals the uptick in new construction projects. Several new hotels are under construction, including the Westin, and Aloft. One of the most anticipated projects, VUE Sarasota Bay adjacent to the Westin, continues to reveal its architectural statement along the Bayfront. Located at the corner of U.S. 41 and Gulfstream Boulevard, the iconic building construction will marry sophisticated modern design with luxury living. Michael Saunders & Company is the exclusive sales agent of record for this luxurious property, with 90% of the residential condominiums sold. Michael Saunders & Company also represents two new single-family and townhome communities located in south Sarasota county. Grand Oaks Venice on East Venice Avenue features a collection of award-winning home designs with over 80% of the homes already sold. Island Court Venice, a new townhome community in Venice, is nearly complete with all of its townhomes. And it's hard not to notice all of the new commercial construction projects underway near University Parkway and I-75. It's part of the next phased expansion project by Benderson Development Company that is expanding its mammoth University Town Center shopping district. The company envisions adding 600,000 square feet of additional retail space, 100,000 square feet of office space, plus two new hotels and nearly 1,800 homes. To help with traffic flow and congestion expected to grow in the area, construction on a new diverging diamond interchange at I-75 is now underway. The $74.5 million project is expected to be completed by fall 2017, in time for the World Rowing Championship at Nathan Benderson Park. Record tourism numbers and new construction projects — both residential and commercial — are fueling tremendous growth along the Cultural Coast. Residence featured on page 39
