Reborning
During its inaugural season, Urbanite
Theatre will present three plays, all of which
are Florida premieres. Its debut show,
"Chicken Shop," ran from April 10 to May 3
to sold-out crowds and an overwhelmingly
positive reception. "Reborning" will run
from June 12 to July 5 and "Isaac's Eye" will
run from August 14 to September 6.
In "Reborning," the lines between art and
life become disturbingly blurred when a
young sculptor of realistic dolls meets
a woman desperate to recreate her
past. This dark, twisted comedy shines
a light on motherhood and the power
of creation. "Reborning is a gripping
script that challenges our senses of living
with emotional pain, loss and the unique
personal process to the road of healing,"
said Wallace. "It's equal parts charming and
suspenseful, with a devastating look at what
it means to be motherless and childless,"
Ragan continued. Written by Zayd Dohrn,
the son of former Weather Underground
leaders Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn,
the script has won numerous awards
including the 2015 Chautauqua New Play
Commission, Theatre Masters' Visionary
Playwright Award, and the Kennedy Center
Jean Kennedy Smith Award. Urbanite will
stage just the fifth production of the script
this summer. Tickets are currently on sale
through Urbanite's box office.
