Not only is Brooks-Moon the only woman in major league baseball to hold this position, but she is the third woman in sports history to ever do so full time. She is definitely paving the way for the next generation of women looking to work in the sports industry, proving that it is quite possible to make a name for yourself in this male dominated profession. POLITICS Phumzile Mlambo- Ngcuka Executive Director of U.N. Women Former Deputy President of South Africa, Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, has always been a strong supporter of social justice, women's rights and gender equality. In August 2013, Mlambo-Ngcuka was sworn in as the Executive Director of U.N. Women, advocating for the advancement of women around the world. She continuously makes the news by supporting and stressing the importance of women's economic empowerment in countries like Malawi and Vietnam, raising awareness on violence against women, and pushing the film industry to take a stance on gender equality. Here are six women we want to celebrate who are making the news. Norwegian born film director, music producer and composer, Deeyah Khan, has used her talents to do more than simply entertain. With a strong passion for women's rights, freedom of expression and peace, Khan is a multidisciplinary artist who uses her skills as a voice for social activism. In 2013, Khan won an Emmy for her documentary 'Banaz: A Love Story', which chronicles the life and death of a young British woman, Banaz Mahmod, who became the victim of an 'honor' killing.
