Q: Do you have a favorite paint color for coastal homes? A: Benjamin Moore Ice Mist is my favorite ceiling paint. I have the ceiling of my studio painted this color to show clients. It looks white but has the palest tinge of aqua that brings the sky or water right inside. Q: Speaking of ceilings, how do you handle a low ceiling? A: This is a situation I face regularly. In older condominium buildings the ceilings are typically only eight feet tall, and since they are usually concrete there isn't much you can do about raising them. So I've devised strategies to make low ceilings seem higher by treating them as another wall. I make ceilings something to notice. First scrape and resurface any popcorn ceilings. Next, make a statement with either a beamed ceiling, cove ceiling or decorative insets with metallic wallpaper or paint. Crown molding or cove molding with perimeter lighting tucked behind solves two problems, light and architectural detailing. 22 | FLORIDA HOMES MAGAZINE FOLIO Interior Design SALLY TROUT SALLY TROUT INTERIOR DESIGN Over the past three decades, Sarasota native, Sally Trout, has designed some of the most spectacular residences in Southwest Florida, from traditional grand estates to modern seaside pied-à-terres. e diversity of her work is a testament to her commitment to personalized design.
