Sun Coast
SHOPPING
S
trolling the brick-lined
streets of the former
"Cigar Capital of the
World," Ybor City, you will find
vintage clothing stores, art galleries,
coffee houses, cafes, bistros and
nightclubs. In addition to antique
furniture, gargoyle statues and
handcrafted Spanish tiles, hand-rolled
cigars can still be purchased in the
old brick buildings of this National
Historic Landmark District. The Latin
Quarter's latest development, Centro
Ybor, offers shopping, dining and
entertainment with stores like Urban
Outfitters and restaurants such as
Samurai Blue.
Beneath the towering oak trees of
one of Tampa's oldest and most
glamorous neighborhoods is Hyde
Park Village, an eclectic collection
of specialty shops, from
designer boutiques
to unique local stores full of
treasures. South of downtown,
this open-air environment offers
outdoor pathways and seating,
and is a fantastic place to peoplewatch or shop away the afternoon.
Some of its prominent tenants
are Restoration Hardware,
Anthropologie, Williams-Sonoma,
Brooks Brothers, Tommy Bahama,
and Pottery Barn. Most of the
walkways are covered, so you
still don't have worry about the
unpredictable Tampa weather.
Those in search of upscale retail
establishments such as Saks Fifth
Avenue will enjoy WestShore Plaza
and the International Plaza, worldclass retail shopping destinations. In
addition to Neiman Marcus and
Nordstrom, approximately half of
International Plaza's 200 specialty
shops are new to the area, including
Tiffany & Co., Louis Vuitton, J. Crew
and Cole Hahn.
