STEP 4
WINTER CANDLEHOLDER.
For this element of the
tablescape, create a wire
structure to attach to the top of
a tall candleholder that will be
both decorative and functional
(as an armature). Tape 10
18-gauge enameled wires with
white stem wrap (if you don't
have white, use green, and then
spray paint the fi nished structure
with white paint before waxing
it). Bundle the 10 taped wires,
and tape the wires together with
stem wrap—just 2 to 3 inches at
one end of bundle. Bend each
wire perpendicular to the taped
"stem" (a 90-degree angle).
Spread the wires equidistantly
into spoke formation. Weave and
double-twist the wires to create a
"honeycomb"-like structure, with
each successive ring of "cells"
being larger than the previous
ring. Once the wire structure is
fi nished, wire it to the top of a
tall candleholder, and form it
into an abstract shape. Next,
dip the wire structure and top
of the candleholder into melted
soy wax, followed by a plunge
into cold water. Repeat this
process fi ve or six times. Finally,
attach fresh and dried botanical
materials and other decorative
elements of your choice—waxed
or not waxed—to this structure,
securing them with melted wax or
STEP 5
Arrange all of the elements you've crafted to create a magical
tablescape. Accessorize the tabletop with fabric or a table
runner; pillar candles; fresh greenery; Christmas ornaments;
clusters of chartreuse reindeer moss; wax "snowballs";
additional pods, cones and/or cotton bolls; dried lime slices;
