STEP 2 Arrange cascading cherry tomato vines on the left side of the vase, emanating from the central focal area. Continue the curved line established by the tomato vines by arranging curved stems of Cerinthe (honeywort) on the right side of the vase, at upward angles. Place a Hosta leaf above the rim of the container, left of center. STEP 3 Create a "flower cloud" formation with waterlily- and informal-decorative-bloomed Dahlia. Remove all foliage from the Dahlia stems, cut them from 3 to 7 inches in length, and arrange them in a staggered fan shape. Place 10 stems on the left side of the vase and five stems of smaller blooms on the far right side. STEP 4 In the space between the grouping of white Dahlia on the left and the cluster on the right, place an artichoke flower slightly right of center, with a slight tip toward the front of the design. Next, arrange sweet peas around the artichoke and Shasta daisies above the fan of Dahlia on the left. Follow by arranging stems of larkspurs in the upper right side of the design, at varying angles, and stems of Hydrangea—one on the left side and two on the right side. Also in the left half of the design, facing forward, arrange stems of Scabiosa, followed by Clematis vines in the upper portion, cascading downward in a semicircle, complementary to the tomato vine. STEP 5 Introduce a complementary hue into the design by arranging roses, Phlox and strawflowers in the upper left portion of the composition.
