42 September | 2023 Design 42 Design Dahlia Garden INSPIRED BY THE BLUE AND RUST HUES OF A BLUEBIRD, THIS DAHLIA- CENTRIC COMPOSITION IS A JOYFUL TRIBUTE TO THE AUTUMN SEASON Floral design, photos and text by Tonneli Grüetter Inspired by the bountiful beauty of the English countryside, beyond the garden gate, this delightful vase arrangement displays bright summery cherry tomatoes, still green of the vine, kissed by golden 'Honey Dijon' hybrid tea roses floating on an abundant cloud of fluffy white Dahlia blooms. e chosen colors pay homage to the bluebird, a universal symbol of hope, joy, positivity and good news. e birds' blue plumage is reflected with Scabiosa, Clematis, Hydrangea, larkspur, a blooming artichoke and vetch vine while their rusty/reddish-orange breasts and throats are represented with 'Honey Dijon' roses, 'Cherry Caramel' Phlox and strawflowers. When fully open, the cheerful yellow hearts of the seasonally appropriate 'Gitts Attention' Dahlia mirror the sun's display, reminding the recipient of these flowers of the warmth that still fills the early autumn air.
