W
hen I think of July, I envision fi reworks, picnics and American
fl ags waving in the summer breeze. As we celebrate our nations
independence, July is also the perfect time to celebrate American-
grown fl owers.
While large-scale commercial fl ower farming in the U.S. has signifi cantly declined in
the past few decades, we've seen small fl ower farms sprout up across the country
in recent years. From Gen Zers to boomers, many people are drawn to the rural
lifestyle on a farm. In our feature celebrating American-grown fl owers, we explore
how this surge of small farms is giving the locally grown movement a boost in
available product. Also in this issue, we share the designs of the fi nalists of our latest
"Best in Blooms" contest, featuring all American-grown products.
For those of you with a full calendar of summer events, we off er tips and tricks
for working with "Alfresco Flowers." We also off er some creative tutorials to
inspire your summer designs. And to help you improve the fi nancial side of
your business, we off er helpful insights to "Grow Your Business with a CSA,"
as well as ideas to help you create customers for a lifetime.
I want to thank my talented team for all their hard work to bring you
inspiring design ideas and practical business advice that will help
you grow your business. We fi rmly believe good design skills and
a solid fi nancial foundation are essential to creating a rewarding,
thriving fl oristry business.
And fi nally, thank you to all our loyal subscribers and marketing
partners who support us throughout the year. We hope you all have a healthy,
