6 June 2023 welcome Kindest regards, Jules Lewis Gibson President & Creative Director Florists' Review Media Group H ave you ever wondered why, for decades, June was the most popular month for weddings? Many sources say that the tradition of June brides began in ancient Roman times. e month of June is named for the Roman goddess Juno, wife of Jupiter and the goddess of love and marriage. Families believed that couples who married in June would be blessed with happiness forever. Another theory is that during medieval times, a person's annual bath (yes, you read that right!) usually fell in May or June, meaning that June brides would still smell relatively fresh. But to be safe, brides carried bouquets of fl owers to mask any body odor; hence, the custom of carrying a bouquet when walking down the aisle. ankfully, brides have stepped up their hygiene routines, and wedding fl owers are still as popular as ever. In this issue—just in time for the summer wedding season—you will discover a host of features that we hope will inspire you and rejuvenate your creativity, including stunning botanical couture designs and the hottest wearable fl orals for weddings; an easy technique for creating fl ower crowns, with step-by-step instructions; and a list of the top budget-friendly fl owers and tips for designing with them in a modern manner, to help you stretch your clients' budgets. Weddings, however, are not the only celebratory events that occur in June. Others include the many types of events that take place in observance of "LGBTQ+ Pride Month," which provide marketing-savvy fl orists fantastic and, possibly, untapped sales opportunities. For fabulous design ideas, check out the winner and fi nalists in our "Show Your Pride" contest, as well as our step-by-step tutorial for creating a stunning "rainbow" design. For the business minds among us, we present two must-read articles—one on the popular trend of "private labeling" and the other about protecting your business from cyberattacks (yes, unfortunately, they're now happening to small businesses, including fl orists). Both of these articles will help you increase your bottom line in diff erent ways: increasing your sales and protecting your already-earned money and other assets. As always, there is a lot to unpack and absorb in this issue, and I want to thank everyone who contributed their knowledge and talents to its creation, as well as our loyal subscribers and marketing partners, who make it all possible!
