38 May | 2023 Design A DRAMATIC AND MODERN NECK CHAIN FOR PROM-GOERS Floral design, photos and text by Angelyn Tipton, AIFD, CFD, GMF STEP BY STEP STEP 1 Create two bases on which to glue the fl owers. For each base, use two 30-inch lengths of silver aluminum wire and one 30- inch length of green aluminum wire. Place a length of silver wire on each "side" of a length of apple-green wire, and strive to keep them in this position (secure the wires in place with adhesive dashes, if desired). Carefully curve the trio of wires to create an artistic curlicue armature. STEP 2 Coil a 90-inch length of silver aluminum wire around a Sharpie marker or another similar object, leaving 2 to 3 inches of each end of the wire uncoiled. STEP 3 Slide the coiled wire off of the marker, and carefully bend the coils "open," into uniformly sized circles. Next, bend the uncoiled ends of the length of wire to form elongated eye-hook-style "clasps," and bind with silver metallic wire. Bend these "clasp" ends of the wire necklace over the curlicue wire armatures created in Step 1, to attach the armatures to the necklace. Further secure the armatures to the necklace with silver metallic wire, if desired. "BOA"–STYLE FLOWER NECKLACE 1 2 3.1 3.2 38 Design
