F
or as long as you have been in business, you probably have always wished for
more business. Today, however, some fl ower shops are cringing when they get
an abundance of new orders because they can't fi ll them. So what is a struggling
fl orist to do?
Yes, it's another challenge, and it requires your participation. To handle more business—
often with less staff ( fi nding good, qualifi ed help has become increasingly diffi cult of
late)—fl orists need to mass produce and reduce the number of their off erings.
First, lower consumers' expectations a bit by informing them that the fl oral industry is
facing limited availability of certain products but that you will do your best to make a
selected design as close to the image as possible by focusing on colors when specifi c
requested fl ower types are not available. Or, just avoid selling designs from photos as
much as possible.
Next, bring in a nice assortment of fl owers and colors, and create designs around those.
A restaurant, for example, might choose to off er more menu items with chicken instead
of including a veal option. In our case, look at these six designs, which feature specifi c
fl owers, and see how many of them you can replicate based on the fl owers you brought
in. It's up to you to use discipline. If you do, you will see improved profi tability and
happy customers.
