AFTF 22 40 January | 2022 metaparody T his look is about futurism, what is new and what defies routine expectations. Heavily influenced by the spirit of digital nostalgia, the Metaparody look borrows from both Vaporwave culture of the early 2010s and the Memphis design group, which rose to prominence in the 1980s, also favoring color palettes of that era. At its very core, this emerging look is where contemporary art fuses with natural form. In contrast to some of the other looks we are highlighting for 2022, Metaparody embraces foliage bringing the love of the leaf centerstage, embellishing greenery with glossy color enhancement and bespoke surrealist art work. Expect to see checker print, ombres and artfully patterned custom-enhanced arrangements paired with "under-spoken" handmade-looking vessels. As the first wave of Gen-Z (25 and younger this year) florists and consumers begin to emerge as a major cultural force, this look is sure to continue gaining favor in influential markets.
