S I D E B Y S I D E A centuries-old form of Japanese garden art, "kokedama" is a ball of soil, covered with moss, in which an ornamental plant grows. "Kokedama" is the Japanese word for moss ball. e beauty of this kokedama art expression tells an intriguing story of contrast. It creates a beautiful dance of tension between what is living and what is reborn into an afterlife. As we see the increased popularity of dried botanicals being incorporated into design work, it seems timely to use the kokedama form as an earth-friendly medium in which to create one side of this floating duo. e ability to simply pierce the orbs onto the wood backdrop allows for easy removal to regularly saturate the live plant, swap it out with a different plant or renew the dried botanical arrangement.
