Extra Features and Video Online FloristsReview.com R E A D O N L I N E 37 Materials Step- By- Step Step 1 Apply wood glue to the fl at side of a 10-inch-square wood artist/painting panel. Step 2 Adhere the 10-inch-square wood panel to the fl at side of a 12-inch-square wood artist/painting panel (fl at sides together). Position the 10-inch wood panel in the center of the 12-inch panel. This will create a raised tray for the design. Step 3 Place a handful of decorative stones or pebbles into an 8-inch-tall glass cylinder vase. Form the "root ball" of a Phalaenopsis orchid plant to fi t into the cylinder vase, and place it into the vase, to rest atop the stones (no additional orchid potting medium or moss needed, unless desired). Support the orchid bloom stem with long, thick wood skewers, binding the orchid stem to the skewers with paper-covered wire. Step 4 Add more wood skewers to create a dimensional, angular, free-form sculpture. Place a palm frond (fresh or dried, natural or painted) into the back of the vase, to add volume and balance. Step 5 Place a handful of decorative stones or pebbles into eight small glass containers (3-inch cylinder vases or beverage tumblers). Place the root balls of assorted small foliage plants into the containers, one plant per container. Step 6 Assemble the centerpiece by placing the cylinder vase containing the Phalaenopsis orchid in the center of the 12-inch "tray," then place the containers of smaller plants around the perimeter of the tray.
