Siesta Key Drum Circle
beat of many different drums at the famous Siesta Key Drum
Circles.
My personal favorite Siesta Key legend attempts to explain
why the beach is 99-percent quartz crystal sand. The legend
contends that the sand is created from the constant tidal
friction on the submerged underwater crystals of Atlantis
hidden on the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico, just offshore
of Siesta Key beach. This theory goes perfectly with a
book I remember from my "New Age" college years, that
declared the old souls of Atlantis were all coming back to
live in today's time, because this is such a crucial time in the
evolution of mankind. I must admit, the culturally diverse
and interesting cross-section of people from around the world
that visit and live on Siesta Key is rather remarkable.
However entertaining the legends may be, Siesta Key is
undeniably a magical place. It is an unpretentious, artsy
coastal haven that leaves it's visitors wanting more, leading
them to return year after year. It was the place, after all, that
my husband and I fell so in love with that, we moved our
entire world to live in Sarasota. I suppose there is a little of
that college hippy still left in me and she feels right at home
on the crystal shores of paradise.
