remaining places where you can park a recreational vehicle or camp in a tent near the Gulf of Mexico. Siesta Key also offers many diverse recreational venues both on and offshore. Adventures via sailing, snorkeling, diving, canoeing or kayaking, along with a variety of land excursions to the area's numerous parks and preserves, allow for observation of the exceptional fish, bird and wildlife populations. The list of water sports is headlined by world-class fishing and runs the gamut from surf casting, spin or fly fishing to shore fishing, wading in the grass flats and even bridge fishing. Charter and cruise boat fishing is probably the most popular island sport. On just one fishing trip you may explore estuaries, mangroves and reefs. More than 1,400 native species of plants and animals inhabit this subtropical estuary, termed a "cradle of the ocean," in Sarasota Bay. Fishermen may find tarpon, snook, sea trout and pompano inshore…. and grouper, red and mangrove Snapper, shark, Amberjack, Kingfish and Dolphin offshore. Dining and entertainment venues are abundant along the Key. Choices run the gamut from funky tiki-hut bars to gracious formal restaurants. An assortment of laid-back establishments include Gilligan's, The Lobster Bar, The Old Salty Dog, SKOB and The Daiquiri Deck. You could grab a sandwich at Anna's Deli, regularly voted to have the island's best sandwich, or opt for a quiet gourmet dinner at Clayton's Siesta Grill. They will even cook your just-caught fish for you to enjoy on the spot. The pizza at Salazano Brothers is also amazing and thankfully they deliver on the key. Many visitors who come to this small island on family vacations and romantic getaways eventually become seasonal or year-round residents.
