48 Michler's Florist has been serving Lexington, Ky., for more than 130 years. Robin Michler is the fifth generation managing this local landmark. While their floral and gardening segments held strong in 2020, Robin noted an uptick in their on-site café business, by more than gardeners. "Everyday garden plants have to compete with the big-box stores," Michler notes. "Instead, we've created a café within a garden that reaches an audience bigger than we would have attracted with just plants." Michler's is currently restoring two other greenhouses in addition to the one used for the café. "Soon, more customers will be able to shop and dine among tropicals and blooming plants in the chill of winter," Michler informs. Michler's went from being a place to shop to a place to escape, providing a truly premium customer experience. Right: Micher's landscaped show gardens draw customers seeking a visual escape.
