Port Royal Nearby Attractions The Philharmonic Center for the Arts The Phil is unique among arts centers in that it features both the performing and visual arts in a single complex and also hosts a resident orchestra. Each season, the Phil is host to more than 400 individual events. Everglades Safaris The adventurous at heart will enjoy the experiences provided by Everglades Safaris. They offer half and full day safari adventures. The excursions begin on a tour bus through Big Cypress State Preserve. Next, the excitement continues on board an airboat, from which one may observe many of the unique 10,000 islands. Development of Port Royal began in the late 1940s, continuing into the 1960s. Much of the area was created by digging meandering wide channels and using the dredged-fill to create the land, something that could not happen in today's environment-conscious Florida. Some of the early structures, often only 2,000 or 3,000 square feet, still harmoniously remain with the newer properties. However, as land values in Port Royal have continued to escalate, the majority of older homes have been razed to make way for new, grander residences, where living areas can range up to 15,000 square feet. Although renovations have occurred, safeguarding the lush tropical Florida landscape, found only around mature properties, has remained paramount. Owners recognize consistent preservation of the best of the past augments a vibrant growing community. Port Royal is comprised of approximately 550 magnificent estate homes, most of them ideally positioned on the water. Unlike typical boating communities, developed with straight-cut canals, the serpentine streets and waterways in Port Royal give the neighborhoods a natural feeling, rather than a planned community impression. Lots become more interesting in size and shape and views are extended in multiple directions. Sunset vistas are phenomenal. Each home here is unique, and flawless examples of remarkable architecture and craftsmanship are represented at every curve. Most Port Royal homes feature docks on the deep waterways and harbor a variety of boats and yachts, ranging from 20 to over 100 feet in length. An excursion, from this conveniently positioned locale, to Key Fifth Avenue South West or the Bahamas opens wonderful new venues for recreation. The grand Port Royal Club is a major focal point of the community. Located directly beachfront, it imbues the quiet elegance that bespeaks of this neighborhood. Membership is limited to Port Royal property owners, and includes numerous recreational and health facilities, world class tennis (with nine HarTru tennis courts), a heated olympic sized pool and a luxurious spa. Complete formal and informal dining facilities offer five-starquality dining. The Seafood Extravaganza held each Friday night is incomparable. Residents of Port Royal treasure the close proximity of Old Naples and Downtown Naples. The historic business districts on Fifth Avenue South and Third Street burgeon with superb restaurants and venues for world-class shopping. In the season there are many art shows and classic car shows. Cambier Park, in the heart of the city, is the site of plays and musical events. Port Royal is truly a world-class community that lives up to it's regal name. Naples Botanical Garden Contributing Writers A world-class botanical garden paradise that combines delightfully cultivated tropical gardens with beautifully restored natural habitats.
