Meet the Key Marco Cat, the
world-famous half cat, half
human statuette discovered
in a Smithsonian Institution
archaeological expedition
on Marco Island in 1896. The
priceless artifact has come
home for display at the Marco
Island Historical Museum
in partnership with the
Smithsonian. Considered
one of the finest pieces of
Pre-Columbian Native
American art ever
discovered in North
America, it is estimated to
have been sculpted between
500 and 1,500 years ago by a
Calusa tribe artisan.
